Cody Anderson

Cody's Chords

By Nate Fisher

That's Cody Anderson for you – a kid with a guitar, a heart full of tunes, and a list of dreams as long as a playlist. He's turning Momence into his personal stage, one number after the next.

Life may hum along gently in our cozy little town, but wait until you hear about this kid, Cody Anderson. Word is he's three years deep into being a student here, originally from this place called De Motte, Indiana, and let me tell you, he's brought a whole new beat to this place. Cody's imagination is like a mixtape of melodious possibilities, all set to a punk rock rhythm of meaningful disturbance and the boundless capabilities of musical expression.

Cody's got this Fender Mustang guitar, right? He's not just any eighth grader strumming chords; the dude has what it takes. His dad's a drummer and guitarist, so the family's been teaching Cody all the tricks of the trade. It's like watching a master and his apprentice, except the only martial art move you need to learn is how to stage kick.

Every day is a new verse to Cody. He has this way of turning schoolwork, especially math, into something that sounds like music to his ears. He loves his teachers at Momence. "I feel like the teachers are more enthusiastic," Cody explains. "More helping." The key to each day is organization or simply finishing what needs to be done so there's room for the real magic in band class. That's where you can hear him shredding the reed on the saxophone, warming up his fingers to tackle the fretboard on his Mustang later. From morning until night, music is on this boy's brain.

Cody's dreaming big, too. He's set his sights on starting a band one day and exploring bigger cities with expansive music venues. And while he loves the quiet charm of Momence, he admits to some curiosity about what life's like in the busier spots. Above all, he wants to know what it sounds like.

The dude's got a soft spot for small, family-run restaurants around here. Says they've got a taste you can't find in those big chain places owned by heartless corpo-rats. Despite the anarchy in his music, high school's structure awaits him, and he's thinking about hitting the soccer field as hard as the mosh pit. Cody's on a path to make some noise and is not afraid to show us all that he can handle a pitch by any name.

A head full of creative ideas, a natural curiosity – when Cody talks, you can't help but listen. He's got this way of describing things that makes you see the world a little differently. His vivid descriptions of the wild world in his imaginarium and his excited vocabulary suggest someone often astounded by all of creation. That's Cody Anderson for you – a kid with a guitar, a heart full of tunes, and a list of dreams as long as a playlist. He's turning Momence into his personal stage, one number after the next. We, the audience, have yet to hear his masterpiece, but it's gonna rock.
